An article provided by Simply Self Storage

Finding the right mini storage facility has a lot to do with your determination, your ability to conduct thorough research and what arrangements you want to make for storing your items when you find mini storage.

There are various kinds of storage facilities that offer moderately sized, large and extra large storage units. If your needs as such that a mini storage unit will do, don’t let yourself be persuaded to take a larger unit and pay more money for space you won’t use and don’t need.

First determine what needs to be stored. You may be able to discard some things. Other things you may decide to donate to your local charity. When all is said and done, if your storage needs are small, then you want to find a mini storage facility that will suit those needs. Although larger units are typically more popular by demand and easier to find, if you are diligent and persistent in your search, mini storage facilities can be found also.

When checking local availability, you may have to just get in your car and ride around town to see what’s out there. Some places that offer mini storage may not spend money to advertise other than to put a sign in front of their facility. These may be some great locations but you have to go out and find them because they aren’t going to come walking up to your door. Finding local mini storage is excellent because it offers the comfort of knowing your items are nearby if you need them and likewise you can remove or add items with almost a moment’s notice.

Local mini storage facilities may be run by people you know as well. This can provide you an added measure of security knowing that you are entrusting your personal belongings into their care.

Finding the right mini storage facility means utilizing some of the advantages of renting a small unit versus a large one. For starters, larger units can be drafty and exposure your belongings to more of the elements than you desire. Next, the extra space is required to be kept in order by you whether you are using it or not because you are paying for it in your rental fee.

Check local bulletin boards for storage in non-facility places such as garages and private storage units. Often times you can find discounted mini storage options that are just as reliable as the other storage units. The difference will be that you may have some slight inconvenience with private storage options such as limited hours and location.

You can also check with traditional storage facilities to see if they have mini storage available. Chances are they do and it is on site in the same area as the large units. Multi-level storage facilities typically have mini storage options for customers in a manner similar to how smaller mailboxes are available at the post office. There may be a certain area of an entire floor that is dedicated to mini storage. If this is the case, mini storage is available just like the rest, on a first come, first served basis.

Remember, mini storage terms are typically the same as the rest. You must make sure that you pay your rental fees when they are due so that you are not at risk of losing your belongings. You may have to purchase insurance to cover the value of the items you are storing if the facility only offers a limited amount that doesn’t match the value of the items you’re placing in the unit.

Mini storage is an excellent way to store small items that you don’t want lying around your house or to fall into the hands of the wrong people. An example of uses for mini storage includes important documents such as wills, deeds and trusts. These are important papers that you wouldn’t want to be caught in a fire or stolen by burglars. Another use could be for valuable jewelry that you also want to store for the same reason.

When you are searching for mini storage facilities and have found one you’re interested in, make sure that you read the terms of the rental contract thoroughly before you sign. Usually the main term involves a month to month payment scenario but you may be able to pay a few months in advance and receive a discount, which is a smart way to pay and save money.
