  • Keep in mind that there are not many storage companies in California that will offer insurance on your items, automatically included in the price. Therefore, it is a wise decision to determine the value of the items that you are storing and purchase insurance accordingly, just in case the unthinkable happens.

If you are opting to use a facility that will store your items without controlling the climate inside the unit to some degree, you will need to make sure that you are storing items that cannot be destroyed by the heat. Photographs, candles, wine, and other items can become damaged beyond repair if not stored in a climate control storage facility. Boats can also suffer damage due to the heat in the form of dry rot. This is why it is very important that this huge investment be stored properly and that you do your homework before signing any contract with facilities that offer such accommodations.

The type of facility that you are going to use will be totally dependent upon what you are storing and how long you are storing it. However, moving to a smaller home or to a home out of state are not the only reasons why people should consider using a self storage facility. Often times, when people go out of town on vacation they may want to take some of their items, including a vehicle, to have placed in storage for safekeeping.
