Storage Unit
An article provided by Simply Self Storage

There are many occasions to need the services of a storage facility that provides storage units to customers for a monthly charge. If you’ve ever had need for a storage unit, you know that it can be a little challenging to find just the right unit for your needs. The size of the unit, whether or not it is climate controlled, the cost of the unit, the terms of the rental agreement and many other things play an integral role in choosing a storage unit.

Today, there are many different kinds of storage units available. There are almost as many different kinds of storage units are there are needs for the units. You may be looking for a storage unit for large items such as furniture, a vehicle, office items or anything on a large scale, there are large storage units that can handle your needs. Many of these large storage units are available with drive up convenience, which means you can drive your vehicle right up to the unit and put your large-sized items right inside. These units are also great for storing motorcycles.

Large storage units are also great for storing rooms of furnishings that you want to keep together. For example, you may be preparing to paint and want to take everything out of the room rather than to use drop clothes. This is especially true for antique furniture or delicate items that you would not want the painters to mar or damage in the process of painting. You can rent a large storage unit for a few weeks or a month and relocate everything from the room you are painting to the storage unit and group things together in a logical order.

Medium size storage units are good for those who live in apartments that do not have storage on site. Sometimes there are just too many things to fit into the apartment closets. When this is the case, you can find a medium size storage unit in states like Kentucky where you can create organized groups of items with aisle ways that allow you to move around in the storage unit without having to take everything out of the unit every time you need to find something you’ve stored there.

Small size storage units are excellent for small things, just like their name indicates. Valuable legal documents, photos, small electronics, jewelry, off season clothing and other small items make for great things to place inside your small storage unit. The nice thing about small size storage units is that they cost less and provide some of the same options as their larger siblings.

No matter what size storage unit you may need, there are some basic considerations that you should keep in mind. The first consideration is the rental agreement. Typically you are going to be asked to sign a rental agreement for a certain amount of time whether it is a few weeks or an entire year. Make sure you read the terms of your agreement thoroughly with regard to the length of time. Don’t sign an agreement to rent for less time than you need or you may find yourself without a storage unit when your agreement expires if they have promised your unit to someone else who has been waiting in line.

Once you have the terms of your rental agreement ironed out, which includes how often you must pay, make sure your unit fits your needs and that you are compliant with what you can store in your unit. For example, if you have a small unit rented, you can’t expect to put larger items such as furniture in them, even if it seems like they will fit.

Watch your mail for coupons or discounts on the balance of your rental or future rentals. It may be that you qualify, as a current renter, for a discount on the remainder of your rental. You may be required to pay the balance in full at the time but the savings could make it quite worth it.

If you are going to need your storage unit for longer than your rental agreement, make sure you have provisions lined up to extend your rental agreement or to remove your items from the unit where they are stored before your rental agreement expires. Also consider checking with your insurance agent to see if they offer suggestions or discounts on storage units for using their preferred vendors. Even a discount on your auto or home insurance in exchange can help.
